Chicken Sticks Smash and Smoortjie

I can feel the coldness in my bones and on days like these I would enjoy some pure home made comfort food that will make me feel warm from the inside... 

Chicken Sticks Smash and Smoortjie
Some while ago I have discovered that Pick n Pay make these delicious Chicken sticks that you can make yourself at home.  

I will share with you today how I have baked these and how to make a delicious Smoortjie that are so  delicious and you can use this recipe to make it yourself and it compliment so well with smash. 

PnP Chicken Sticks
PNP FROZEN CHICKEN STICKS → R 35.99 (400G) 

What I enjoy about Pick n Pay Chicken Sticks are that they are tasty and very quick to fry in the pan or you can also bake it in the oven.

To Bake: Preheat oven to 180'C.  Place frozen chicken sticks on baking tray.  Place baking tray in the center of the oven.  Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.

To Shallow Fry:  Fry in shallow oil over medium heat for approximately 6 - 8 minutes, turning occasionally until golden brown, or until cooked through.  Blot excess oil on absorbent paper.

Please note that it's not suitable for microwave cooking.

Smoortjie

Tomatoe & Onion Smoortjie 

Ingredients: 

  • 4 Medium sliced Tomatoes 
  • 2 Medium sliced Onions 
  • ¾ t Garlic paste 
  • Pinch of Salt 
  • *5 - 7 Tablespoons of Sugar 
  • 1 Dessert spoon of Margarine
* Your are welcome to use less sugar that I have indicated in this recipe, but I would advice that you should at-least add  2 Tablespoons of Sugar to this smoortjie. 

Method
  • Heat the pan with the margarine.
  • Braise the 2 sliced Onions in the pan until soft. 
  • Add the garlic paste.
  • Add the 4 sliced Tomatoes.
  • Add a pinch of Salt
  • Add the Sugar. 
  • Take your wooden spoon and mixed these ingredients together.
  • Leave on stove until they are soft  
Homemade Smash
Homemade Smash 

Ingredients: 
  • 6 Peeled Potatoes
  • 1 Teaspoon of Salt
  • Water
  • 1 Tablespoon of Margarine
  • ¾ Baking Powder
  • ¼ Nutmeog 
  • ½ - 1 cup of Milk
  • Pinch of Ina Paarman Potatoe Spice 
Method:  
  • Cut your potatoes into quarters. 
  • Bring a pot of water to boil and add your potatoes and salt. 
  • Cook them until tender, but still firm. 
  • Take your cooked potatoes out of your pot and place them into a bowl. 
  • Add your margarine, milk,*nutmeg and Potatoespice.
  • Using an potatoe smasher and beat them until smooth and creamy.
